Why Weed Titles on Economics?

Educating students on economic issues provides them with the information and tools they need to succeed today’s global marketplace.  Teach students about the ups and downs of the stock market, instruct students on how to plan and stay within a monthly budget, and inform students of the many ways economic stability impacts supply and demand.  Students who can appreciate and understand the value of economic principles are set to become the business and entrepreneurial leaders of the future.  Enjoy these Heineman-Raintree titles!

Criteria for Weeding Titles on Economics

  • Check the 330s.
  • Check for misleading economic information on issues such as the minimum wage rate and standard living expenses such as rent and basic utilities.
  • Titles should include economic information relevant to modern society.  Look for titles that include information on digital banking and commerce.
  • Titles should provide readers with information on "real world" economic issues, including personal finance matters, retirement and saving information, and debt and finance management.
  • Select titles that provide a range of subject matter and are free of gender stereotypes.
  • Weed materials that rarely circulate using the circulation statistics.  However, be careful not to dispose of titles that contain valuable material.  An item's circulation history is not always an accurate measure of the item's use.  Students may use these titles to glean specific slices of information rather than as take-home reads.
  • Replace selections that include boring and/or out-of-date illustrations and photos.
  • Titles should be free of gender and racial stereotypes.
  • Weed materials that are worn, checking for:
    • Soiled pages
    • Brittle, yellowed paper
    • Missing pages
    • Worn edges or corners
    • Broken spine
    • Dirty cover
